Winning: 263K new jobs in April, unemployment rate lowest since 1969

I am still not tired of winning.

From MarketWatch:
The economy generated a stronger than expected 263,000 new jobs in April, helping to drive down the unemployment rate to a 49-year low of 3.6%. The increase in new jobs easily topped the 217,000 MarketWatch forecast. The jobless rate slid from 3.8% in March to hit the lowest level since December 1969. The average wage paid to American workers rose 6 cents, or 0.2%, to $27.77 an hour. The 12-month rate of hourly wage gains was unchanged at 3.2%. Hours worked each week fell 0.1 hour in April to 34.4. The government revised the increase in new jobs in March to 189,000 from a preliminary 196,000. February's gain was raised to 56,000 from 33,000.

You can expect to see many more stories like this one.

Sleazeball Baltimore mayor quits after month on leave amid scandal

"Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard."
H.L. Mencken, known as the Sage of Baltimore.

In a way Baltimore, a failed city, and its disreputable former mayor, deserved each other.

From Fox Baltimore:
Catherine Pugh has announced her resignation as the Mayor of Baltimore, effective immediately.

Pugh has been on a leave of absence for more than a month as she recovers from pneumonia and bronchitis amid Healthy Holly scandal.

Her lawyer Steve Silverman made the announcement Thursday afternoon.

The first-term Democrat became mayor in late 2016.
More from AP:
Mayor Catherine Pugh’s resignation came exactly a week after her City Hall offices, homes and multiple other locations were raided by FBI and IRS agents. She is the second mayor in less than a decade to step down because of scandal. She came to office contrasting her clean image with her main opponent, ex-mayor Sheila Dixon, who was forced to depart office in 2010 as part of a plea deal for misappropriating about $500 in gift cards meant for needy families.

"I am sorry for the harm that I have caused to the image of the city of Baltimore and the credibility of the office of the mayor," Pugh said in a written statement read by her lawyer, Steven Silverman.

A federal grand jury has been empaneled and state and local inquiries are also underway into the roughly $800,000 Pugh made over the years in exchange for her "Healthy Holly" paperbacks about health and nutrition.

Since the book scandal erupted in late March, Pugh’s fractured administration has lurched from one crisis to another and various aides have been fired or left City Hall.

Episode 1: Bloody Chicago podcast: Gang war in Englewood, Jussie Smollett, mobs of kids

Victor Maggio of Bloody Chicago reports on crime as no one else does.

For instance, this winter Lawrence "Big Law" Loggins, a leader of the Black Gangsters, was murdered in Englewood on the South Side. Why? He was trying to rein in gang members and probably then extract a street tax from these thugs.

Maggio fears a summer gang war may result.

He also discusses the Jussie Smollett hoax and Crook County's leftist prosecutor, Kim Foxx, as well as the growing problem of "wilding" youths wreaking havoc downtown.

Maggio lays it down in his first podcast.

California's population growth lowest in history

This is what one-party rule, one-party Democratic rule that is, does to a state.

From the Los Angeles Times:
California’s 2018 population growth was the slowest in state history, new demographic data show — underscoring shifting immigration patterns, declining birthrates and economic strains that are making it harder for some to afford living here.

The state added 186,807 residents last year, bringing the estimated total population to 39,927,315 as of Jan. 1, according to estimates released by the state Department of Finance on Wednesday. The overall growth rate slipped to 0.47% last year from 0.78% in 2017, the slowest since data collection started in 1900, department spokesman H.D. Palmer said.

Births in the state were down by more than 18,000 compared with the previous year.
