Johnny Cash: The Big Light

If you watched Ken Burns' fabulous Country Music series on PBS, you've seen a lot of Johnny Cash, as well as his wife, June Carter, and the Carter Family singers, as well as June's daughter, Carlene.

Here The Man in Black performs an Elvis Costello song, "The Big Light." Costello's version is straightforward in what we now call the Americana style. As for Cash and family, this interpretation is a gospel rave-up. An odd choice, as "The Big Light" is about recovering from a hangover.

This live rendition is from the late 1980s, when Carlene Carter was married to Nick Lowe, who produced Costello's first six albums.
