On this day in 1918: Allies occupy Constantinople

For only the second time in the second millennium a foreign army occupied Constantinople, Turkey,  now known as Istanbul. Allied forces, first the French and then the British, occupied what was then the capital of the Ottoman Empire.

The Turks committed horrific crimes during the First World War, most notably, the Armenian Genocide.

Never forget.
