Chaotic presidential transition: On this day eight years ago Blago was arrested

Then-President-elect Barack Obama's honeymoon was doused with a cold shower on a frigid morning on December 9, 2008, when federal agents arrested fellow Chicago Democrat Rod Blagojevich, the governor of Illinois, for attempting to sell the US Senate seat that was vacated by Obama.

One of the go-betweens in Blago's negotiations was a top Chicago area official with SEIU, that union was very tight with Obama.

And one of the hair-brained governor's suitors for the seat was then-US Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Chicago), who later served a prison sentence for misuse of campaign funds. His wife, former Chicago alderman Sandi Jackson, also was locked up for her role in his scheme.

And Blago is still in prison.

Illinoisans, myself and other patriots excluded, are getting the government they deserve.

There have been no-such scandals with the transition involving the new president-elect, Donald J. Trump.
