Wildflower: Jack-in-the-pulpit

Wildflowers don't need bright colors to be attractive. The jack-in-the-pulpit has a mostly green bloom--with varying degrees of dark red. The irregular hood, the spathe, is the the "pulpit."

This plant prefers moist woodland--which is where I found this one--specifically, it was at Campground Road Woods in Des Plaines, Illinois.
