Contrast Ronald Reagan's masterful address to the nation after the Soviet Union downed a passenger jet in 1983 with Obama's flippant response yesterday and his emotionless remarks today on the shooting down by Russian separatists of a Malaysian civilian airliner over Ukraine.

America and the Free World had a real leader then.

"Let me state as plainly as I can," Reagan said 31 years ago, "There was absolutely no justification, either legal or moral, for what the Soviets did. One newspaper in India said, 'If every passenger plane is fair game for home air forces it will be the end to civil aviation as we know it.'"
