225 years ago today: George Washington takes first presidential oath

Washington Circle,
Washington DC
I wonder if anyone else will notice?

It was on this day--April 30, 1789--that George Washington was sworn in as the first president of the United States.

He took the oath on the balcony of Federal Hall in New York--then the capital of the new nation.

Washington of course was one of our greatest presidents. Everything he did in the office, however small, set precedent. The foundation when he left office eight years later was strong.
