From the Wall Street Journal:
The HealthCare.gov website has developed a nasty habit of going down at inconvenient times, such as during the congressional testimony of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. On Monday, the site’s latest crash–er, “brief unscheduled outage”–took place just as officials were preparing for their daily press briefing.Technorati tags: newsDemocrats Obama Barack Obama obamacare health universal health care health care reform
The outage began at 12:40 p.m., forcing postponement of a 1:30 p.m. briefing, and lasted about 90 minutes, officials from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said.
Once the briefing finally got under way later in the afternoon, CMS spokeswoman Julie Bataille explained that the new problem was unrelated to last week’s outage, which happened when a data center hosting the site lost connectivity.
Andy Slavitt, group executive vice president at Optum, the contractor that is leading the cleanup effort, told reporters that the origins of the latest problem were still being investigated, but they appeared to be related to an overload on a small number of servers.
