Of course I'd prefer a Republican as Illinois' next governor--but Daley would have been a huge improvement over Quinn. Yeah, I know all about the Daley machine, but Bill isn't from the "muscle side" of the family.
It's no matter--Quinn has to go.
Bruce Rauner, a businessman who is running for governor, issued this statement about Daley's departure:
Pat Quinn is a master of machine politics, but that approach to governing has failed the people of Illinois. I’m the only candidate able to offer a clean break from the failed policies coming out of Springfield, and I can’t be bought by the government union bosses and special interests running the state. I can’t be intimidated, and I won’t back down until we bring back Illinois. It has been 516 days since Quinn boasted that he was "put on earth" to repair Illinois worst-funded-in-the-nation pension system.
The pensions still haven't been fixed.
