The wood poppy, also known as the celandine or yellow poppy, is rare in Illinois, particularly in the northern part of the state.. But they do grown in Cook County, and I found some today in the Miami Woods Forest Preserve in Illinois. These poppies thrive in moist soils--I found them in a ravine.
Garlic mustard, an invasive species from Europe, threatens this plant.
