The message from the Obama campaign last year is that the War on Terror--of course they couldn't use that term--was over and that al-Qaeda was defeated. However, in a still developing story, about 60 western hostages, including two Americans, are being held by two al-Qaeda-linked groups in Algeria. One American hostage is dead.
The terrorists say they will release the two Americans if we free Omar Abdel Rahman, better known as the Blind Sheikh and a man the New York Daily News surprisingly called an unidentified "Islamic fanatic." As of this posting that phrase is in the second paragraph of the article.
The Blind Sheikh was the mastermind of the first World Trade Center bombing.
Tragically, al-Qaeda is still a force for evil.
