Look what I found flying around a hallway of a condominium in Morton Grove this evening: a little brown bat. These bats are common in Illinois and most of the rest of the United States.
Yes, I'm aware it's not flying in my photograph--the critter wouldn't sit still for a portrait.
In the late fall bats seek warmer spots to hibernate in, such as caves, mines, and of course buildings.
