Old State Capitol, Springfield |
Earlier at a Springfield breakfast, Quinn made a Joe Biden-esque gaffe: "I think everybody knows that Obama, uh, he's gone, he's dead, and the American auto industry is alive and well, thanks to our president." The Chicago Democrat of course meant that Osama bin Laden is dead. As for the American auto industry, it's alive, but not well. Taxpayers are expected to lose $25 billion on the General Motors and Chrysler bailouts.
As for Quinn, the unions aren't happy with him because he wants to cancel planned raises, close some facilities, and make state retirees pay more for their health care. His proposals are only a baby-step fix. What Illinois of course needs are Scott Walker-type reforms, but Quinn, who can't think outside of his boxed-in liberal mindset, won't be able to accomplish such deeds.
