Louis Sullivan's last commission: Krause Music Store

Louis Sullivan's later years were sad ones. Commissions were scarce for the great architect. His last one was the Krause Music Store on Lincoln Avenue on Chicago's North Side. Sullivan designed only the terra cotta facade of the store, William Presto was the listed architect. The structure was completed in 1922.

Ironically, the building later was used as a funeral home. Sullivan died two years later and is buried a few miles away in Graceland Cemetery next to his parents.

Two of Sullivan's most feted works, the Ryerson and the Getty tombs, are in Graceland.
