Zero percent good news: A bad couple of days for Occupy Chicago

Loft space may soon be available
Occupy Chicago has suffered through a couple of bad days. On their website yesterday they announced that they are considering terminating their lease on their Near South Side loft space. They had hoped to use it as a base of operations for the G8 NATO protests, but the old warehouse, pictured on the left of course, will not be accessible during the rump NATO Summit. G8 will has been moved to Camp David.

The Coalition Against NATO/G8 War & Poverty Agenda, an Occupy-affiliated protest group, was in court today seeking a reversal of the denial of a permit to protest the NATO gathering on May 20. They received one for May 19, but the G8 folks will be in Maryland--and so will much of the big-time media. Chicago officials say they don't have the manpower for the 20th, while they do possess it for the prior day. I have to side with them on this one--they're getting hosed here. However, the demonstators could still hold that march against NATO on the 19th--oh, the national media won't be around.

And finally, the Occupy Chicago sponsored music festival that for a brief spell had VIP seating and special access passes--how one-percent of them!--has been postponed. It was to be held two weeks before the NATO Summit.
