Oil imports account for whopping 60 percent of our trade deficit; Gingrich and Santorum comments about Obama's failed energy policy

Earlier this month the The Consumer Energy Alliance held a conference in Colorado where Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum spoke.

In related news, the CEA noted a few days ago that oil imports account for nearly 60 percent of our massive trade deficit.

Enjoy these highlights of Gingrich's address:

"A rational, serious American government would have a crash program on American energy," Gingrich said. "And it would say our goal would be to become so independent of the Middle East that we actually don't care what you do."

Among Santorum's comments, this nugget of wisdom stands out: "There is a war on fossil fuels in this country by this administration. It is one of our greatest assets that we have hundreds of years of coal, well over a hundred years of oil...and we don't even know yet how much [natural] gas we have. And the president does not look at that as an asset for this country. He looks at this as a problem."

My take: Obama's energy policy is a big problem.
