The event usually meets in Las Vegas, but chose Chicago after the Illinois General Assembly enacted union work-rule reforms that are exhibitor-friendly. However, federal judge Ronald Guzman threw out the reforms--he sided with the Teamsters and Carpenters union--the two unions sued to block the new law.
Chicago's new mayor, Rahm Emanuel, while sidestepping whether the new law needs to be overturned, has vowed that there will be no more trade show defections.
While the former White House chief of staff has criticized these unions, Emanuel has taken utilized a tough stance with the Chicago Teachers Union as his board of education wrestles with serious financial problems.
