Sen. Sessions says pass the House budget to avoid gov't shutdown

While Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) whines about the Tea Party's "extreme social agenda" in regards to the 2011 budget that his party failed to pass last year, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), the ranking Republican on the Senate Budget committee has some straightforward advice to avoid a shutdown of the federal government: pass the House bill that will fund the government for the rest of the fiscal year.

Among Sessions' comments:

I hope we can get things worked out in a way that's consistent with the message of the last election. There was a shellacking of the big spenders... I think it's inevitable that we were going to reduce spending. That was the message of the last election. So to some degree, I think President Obama and the Democrat leadership, particularly in the Senate, were in denial.
Running a government without a budget--now that's extreme, Harry.

"If this government shuts down, and it looks like it's headed in that direction, it's going to be based on my friends in the House of Representatives ... focusing on ideological matters that have nothing to do with funding this government," Reid charged.
