Quinn signs death penalty abolishment bill; two questions for Quinn the MSM won't ask

As expected, Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn signed a bill passed in a lame duck session of the General Assembly banning the death penalty. He also announced that he will commute the sentences of the 15 inmates currently on Illinois' death row down to life in prison without the possibility of parole. This is the second time in less than a decade the state's death row has been emptied. George Ryan, who is now a federal prisoner, issued his commutations just days before he left office.

Lame duck anti-death penalty bill...exit door commutations...such is politics in Illinois.

A press conference is currently under way where Quinn will discuss his capital punishment decision.

Had I been invited to it, I'd ask him these questions:

1) Why did you campaign last year as a death penalty supporter?

2) Is is true, as House Minority Leader Tom Cross alleges, that you traded votes for you 67 percent income tax increase in exchange for a promise to abolish capital punishment in Illinois?

As others have said, it''s ironic that so many Americans like to trumpet about their values and their moral superiorit¬y, the US being a beacon of what a civilised democracy should be - yet, the US remains about the only 'civilised¬' country that just loves judicial killing.
