Plans for new Iowa nuclear plant go on

Despite the concerns about a possible nuclear meltdown in Japan, supporters of a new Iowa nuclear plant--the Hawkeye State has just one--aren't backing down. The Des Moines Register is reporting that Iowa's lieutenant governor, Kim Reynolds, said in a conference call yesterday that she expects the planning for a plan to continue. MidAmerican Energy President William Fehrman says he expects to be able to present a proposal for that plant by the end of the year and the design of the facility would offer improvements over the type of plants in Japan.

As they always do, environmental groups oppose the proposed facility.
