Hypocrisy on reporting about Koch Brothers--what about Soros?

"Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it."
Saul Alinksy, Rules for Radicals.

And the Left has done that with Charles and David Koch, the billionaires generally referred to as the Koch Brothers, who are quite generous in contributing to conservative causes.

"Koch Brothers" has more of a villain-esque ring, along the lines of the Batman TV show, dontcha think?

The Kochs have donated to the Cato Institute, the nations premier Libertarian think tank, which Salon writes about here,  Mother Jones mentions the Koch-ties to Cato here, and you will find another reference from Think Progress, a liberal blog, here.

But did you know, or did they know, that George Soros' Open Society Institute has contributed to the Cato Institute? It's listed as a 2008 grantee here.

And Open Society filed some IRS 1090 forms listing the following contributions to Cato:

2008 Form 990
  • $37,150
  • Purpose: Educate policymakers on efforts to create a national system of identification under the REAL ID Act
  • $50,000
  • Purpose: Support of civil liberties and counterterrorism initiative
  • $100,000
  • Purpose: Support of civil liberties and counterterrorism initiative
2007 Form 990
  • $25,935
  • Purpose: Educate policymakers on efforts to create a national system of identification under the REAL ID Act
Total Contributions: $213,085
