Geraldine Ferraro dies at 75

5Geraldine Ferraro, the first woman to be a vice presidential nominee for a major party, died today of blood cancer at 75 in Boston. She was a little known Democratic member of Congress from Queens before Walter Mondale plucked her out of obscurity to be his running mate in 1984. The Reagan-Bush juggernaut crushed the pair--the Democrats won only Mondale's home state and the District of Columbia.

She was a standard tax-and-spend liberal, which puts her light-years ahead of the typical "Blame America" Dems who dominate the party now.

But she was a class-act all the same. Her supportive comments regarding Sarah Palin--but not of her political stances--attest to that.

Rest in peace.
