The Mother Road, Route 66, ran from downtown Chicago to Santa Monica, California. It's a commemorative road now, and Illinois does a pretty good job marking it. On the left is the self-explanatory "end" sign at Jackson Boulevard and Michigan Avenue.
Route 66 began--or ended--on Jackson, which became an east-bound one-way street in Chicago's Loop decades ago. The Mother Road was later extended east a couple of blocks to Lake Shore Drive.
On the right is the view of the final original block of old Route 66. Above Jackson are elevated train lines.

The L doesn't run on Jackson Blvd. -- iot runs on Van Buren Street, which is one street south of Jackson. You are clearly unfamiliar with downtown Chicago!
Hmm...is this the same L that turns on Van Buren onto Wabash past Jackson?
