Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, a Democrat, is a man of his word. He bet his Republican counterpart, Jim Schmitt of Green Bay, that his Steelers would defeat the Packers in the Super Bowl earlier this month.
The Steelers lost, and on Tuesday Ravenstahl shoveled snow in front of St. Rosalia Catholic Church in Greenfield, Pennsylvania while wearing a Packers shirt. The parents of Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy worship there. A Packers flag was also flown in front of Pittsburgh's city hall.
But Illinois Governor Pat Quinn, at least for now, is a welsher. The public-sector union sycophant refuses to honor his bet--he was supposed to volunteer at a Wisconsin food pantry because the Packers defeated the Chicago Bears in the NFC championship game. Quinn is waiting for the dispute between Governor Scott Walker and the unions to be resolved. But what if Walker wins? What does Quinn do then? Does he not pay up?
Not paying debts is the Illinois way.
