More Chicago "dibs' parking

I'll be in Washington for the CPAC conference for the next four days. I'll see a lot that I won't encounter in Chicago, but one thing I won't find in Washington is snow "dibs" parking.

As I wrote on Sunday, after a big snowstorm, Chicagoans and some suburbanites dig out a street parking spot, mark it with a chair, and claiming "dibs" on that space.

This is the only place in the world where this practice occurs.

These "dibsters" can be found near Lawrence and Paulina on Chicago's North Side.

A couple miles northeast of there, Tom Mannis took his own dibs photos.

Chicago is not alone. This practice is routine in NJ.

It's far from the "only place in the world" where this happens. It's routine in the Canton neighborhood of Baltimore and has been for decades.

It's also common in Ocean City Maryland for people to put beach chairs out to hold their spots while they go to the store or to church, especially in high season.
