Reince Priebus is new RNC chairman

Reince Priebus, the chairman of the Wisconsin Republican Party, is the new RNC chairman, prevailing in the seventh round of voting.

Late in the voting the incumbent, Michael Steele, dropped out of the race.

Steele was an amiable man with sound conservative credentials. We spoke on a conference call and we met last fall when is Fire Pelosi bus tour came to Niles, Illinois. He has plenty to offer, but the RNC leader post was not the right match for Maryland resident. Best of luck to him.

After his win, Priebus told the RNC, "We can defeat Barack Obama in 2012, together unified as a committee."
