ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL – The Pollak for Congress campaign has released the following statement:Meanwhile, today's Daily Herald discusses their conflicting positions on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the report was drawn from that endorsement session.
This afternoon--to our mutual surprise!--Jan Schakowsky and I debated at the offices of the Daily Herald newspaper in Arlington Heights. We were each scheduled to meet with the editorial board, which is deciding which of us to endorse. Little did we know that we would be interviewed at the same time, in the same room!
For nearly 90 minutes, we debated the major issues facing the 9th congressional district and the nation today. It was a great debate! The only problem is that it had an audience of four.
I believe that we should debate in public. Thus far, Jan Schakowsky has refused repeated invitations to debate. (We will be participating in two candidate forums, but these will explicitly not be conducted as debates.) Most recently, Schakowsky refused an invitation from FOX News Chicago. It is time for the voters to hear both sides contest each other’s views.
I renew my invitation to Jan Schakowsky to participate in up to three debates, in public, in the 9th congressional district. And I call on the Daily Herald to release the two audio recordings that were made at today’s endorsement interview. They should be aired on the radio and the Internet for the benefit of the voters of the 9th congressional district. The people deserve to hear what the editors of the Daily Herald heard this afternoon!
As for debates, my guess is that Schakowsky is terrified--her views on ObamaCare, cap and trade, union card check and the stimulus don't match those of the voters--including myself--in Illinois' 9th.
