Mark Kirk, the Republican canidate for the US Senate in Illinois, will travel to East Peoria this morning to talk trade and jobs in a speech to Caterpillar employees. He'll also pick up the endorsement of the CEO of "Cat," Jim Owens.
Eighteen months ago President Obama flew to East Peoria to sell his stimulus program to Caterpillar workers. The area's congressman, Republican Aaron Schock, was encouraged during the president's speech to vote for the stimulus. He didn't, and now Owens will back the GOP candidate for the Senate seat once held by Obama.
Caterpillar is one of Illinois' largest private employers.
