Blago successor's chief of staff quits amid ethics probe

Blogging from Williamsburg, Iowa.

While convicted felon Rod Blagojevich continues to embarrass himself and the state on his media tour--remember, Illinois voters elected him twice--his successor and two-time running mate, Pat Quinn, has a new ethics headache. Last night his chief of staff, Jerry Stermer, resigned. He had sent politically-oriented e-mails from his state account--you can't do that. The e-mail flap may be related to the dismissal of James A. Wright, the state inspector general, although Quinn says it is not. The term of the Blago appointee had expired.

On the campaign end, Quinn fired his media firm on Friday. He trails Republican Bill Brady in every opinion poll.

As for Blago, his continued blabbering can only hurt state Democrats.
