Ellsworth sending a mixed message in Indiana Senate race

Which one is it for Brad Ellsworth? The Indiana Democrat, who is now running for the US Senate, calls himself an "independent voice" on his web site.

During his brief time as the 8th District's Congressman, Brad has developed a reputation as an independent voice and effective problem-solver for Hoosiers. [...] During his brief time in office, he has put his experiences as Sheriff to work solving problems, resolving disputes, and working to change the way Washington works. ("Meet Brad," EllsworthforIndiana2010.com, 7/7/10)

Or is he an insider?

"I have been in Congress. I'm not running away from that," the U.S. representative from Evansville said during a Wednesday campaign stop in South Bend. ("Ellsworth says he's not running from his D.C. time," Tom Coyne, Associate Press, 7/7/10)

Ellsworth, who faces Republican Dan Coats in November, is the man who voted against the $862 billion stimulus before voting for it.

Oh, Ellsworth has been a member of Congress for three and a half years. Brief? Too long. Ellsworth voted "yea" on ObamaCare too. And if he can't change Congress now, will he ever be able to do so?
