Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize--for what?

I thought Mrs. Marathon was joking when she informed me in the pre-dawn chill that Barack Obama had won the Nobel Peace Prize. What has he done since becoming president? Hey, he hasn't even able to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility, something he promised he would do on his first full day in office.

Time's Simon Robinson believes this could end up hurting the president, National Review's John J. Miller wonders if Obama is the first world leader who has won a Nobel Peace Prize--who has also refused to meet with the Dalia Lama, and Michael Binyon of the Times of London writes, "Rarely has an award had such an obvious political and partisan intent."

Russia's RT network brings together a group of political analysts who express shock over Obama's win, one of whom calls is "farcical."

The Nobel Peace Prize has been cheapened.

Maybe they felt he didn't have a high enough opinion of himself.

How can you cheapen a "peace" award that's been given to the likes of Yasser Arafat?

it would seem that Obama winning the Nobel Peace prize represents a vote of confidence from Europe, which is a good thing
