As I've noted on this blog many times before, unbeknownst to the national media, the Jesse Jackson family has been quietly building a political machine on Chicago's South Side and southern suburbs. Besides the reverend, other cogs in that organization include his son, US Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Chicago), his wife Sandi, who is the alderman and committeeman of Chicago's 7th Ward, and the Rev. James Meeks (D-Chicago), who was once one of Barack Obama's spiritual advisors, at least until his hostility to gays became widely known. Meeks is a state senator.
Vanquished prey of this machine include the suburban Shaw twins and the father-daughter Beavers organization in the 7th Ward.
By the way, were you are aware that politics in Illinois is a family endeavor?
Fortunes have soured for the Jacksons since last summer. A hot mike caught Jesse threating to castrate then-Senator Barack Obama. And Junior was caught campaigning too hard for Obama's vacated Senate seat by holding a fundraiser for then-Gov. Rod Blagojevich a few days before the hair-brained one was arrested.
But humility is not a Jackson family virtue. Which is I guess why Sandi Jackson, Junior's wife (it's hard to keep up, I know) is considering a run for the Democratic nomination for the currently vacant lieutenant governor's office.
As you'll read below, Sandi has her problems too.
