Congress defies Obama with plans to move forward on F-22 purchases

A few months ago I wrote something along the lines that since President Obama was so intent on ramming a stimulus bill through Congress for job creation, why not build more F-22 fighter jets, which are built in the United States.

In the three months since my last F-22 post, the world, a dangerous place then, has become even more dangerous.

But Barack Obama, who favors more government spending for everything but defense, has vowed to veto the defense bill that includes funding for more F-22s.

The Hill has more:

Lawmakers pushing to save the programs say the F-22 and second engine for the F-35 are vital to national security.

They also argue eliminating the F-22 program would kill off jobs during a brutal recession.

The F-22 is built in Georgia, though parts for the planes are also manufactured all over the country.

The Senate committee’s action was a victory for Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.), one of Congress's strongest F-22 backers.

Secretary of Defense Robert Gates opposes the purchase of more F-22s.

Because there are better ways to stimulate the economy than by building more F-22s. A F-22's worth of roads and green energy is greatly more beneficial to this country than the plane.
