What I want to add that it has known that Governor Rod Blagojevich ran his office like a shifty salesman selling dubious merchandise out of the trunk of his car since he announced "I will serve as a reformer" in his inaugural address in 2003.
Prior to his election as governor, Blagojevich served in Congress, Emanuel was his successor.
They're not strangers.
So wouldn't it be natural that Emanuel talk to Blago about filling Barack Obama's Senate seat? Dontcha think?
CBS 2 Chicago has more:
The 76-page complaint (from the US Attorney's office against the governor) contains multiple references to "Senate Candidate 1," whose description clearly fits Jarrett, a former finance chief for Obama's earlier campaigns and incoming senior White House adviser.
Because of that, the question has thus arisen as to whether Emanuel had any dealings with the governor.
Emanuel did not appear at a news conference Thursday at which President-elect Obama addressed the Blagojevich scandal and announced Tom Daschle as his pick for Health and Human Services secretary.
But a Chicago Sun-Times reporter ran into Emanuel at City Hall, and said Emanuel refused to answer any questions about whether he had conversations with Blagojevich.
As I noted in the below post, Obama says that his staff didn't take part in any deal making with the disgraced governor. Deal making...
For his part, Emanuel, who has not been accused of any wrongdoing, is no angel. A push by former City of Chicago deputy water commissioner Don Tomczak--who sent a patronage army to the 5th Congressional District on Emanuel's behalf, put Emanuel over the top in a tough Democratic Primary race. Tomczak is in prison now, he pleaded guilty on bribery charges.
