Obama still not telling the truth on ACORN

The mainstream media keeps eating up the cock-and-bull stories that he and ACORN were never that close.

After graduating from Harvard Law School, Obama returned to his adopted city of Chicago to work for Project Vote--an ACORN group.

In March, the Los Angles Times, recalling Obama's legendary (to some) days as a community organizer on Chicago's South Side, discussed the future senator's role--which some say he exaggerated--in asbestos removal at the Alteld Gardens housing project.

Several community organizers and Altgeld Gardens tenants confirmed Johnson was working on asbestos but said Obama organized residents to act. "He got people to vote with their feet" on the issue, organizer Madeleine Talbot said. At the time, Talbot worked at the social action group ACORN and initially considered Obama a competitor. But she became so impressed with his work that she invited him to help train her staff.

Earlier today Obama spoke to a group of reporters about his ACORN ties, as the Chicago Tribune's Swamp blog reports:

"First of all, my relationship to ACORN is pretty straightforward," he said, according to a pool report from outside the resort where he is holding his final debate camp in Oregon, Ohio.

"It's probably 13 years ago, when I was still practicing law, I represented ACORN and my partner in that representation was the U.S. Justice Department, in having Illinois implement what was called the 'Motor Voter' law, to make sure that people could go to DMVs and driver's license facilities to get registered," Obama said. "It wasn't being implemented. That was my relationship and is my relationship to ACORN."

Obama also said he has had ties to an ACORN chapter in Chicago.

"As an elected official, I've had interactions with them," he said. "But they are not advising our campaign. We've got the best voter registration and turnout and volunteer operation in politics right now and we don't need ACORN's help."

And the mainstream media, not even a newspaper in his hometown, blows the whistle on Obama.

Audacity!
