This is the first of my live blogging posts of tonight's vice presidential candidate's debate taking place in St. Louis.
Early on, Senator Joe Biden bragged about "reaching across the aisle" as a senator.
Huh?
Off the top of my head I can't think of any substantial issue where Joe Biden has gone against his party's line--except for his vote for the authorization of the use of force against Iraq in 2002--a vote Biden has called a mistake.
Obama not only hasn't "crossed the aisle" on a major issue in his political career.
McCain's best known legislation, the McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Bill, was co-sponsored by Russ Feingold, a Wisconsin Democrat. That bill to this day is unpopular among conservatives.
McCain phrased it best at the Republican National Convention last month, "I have that record and the scars to prove it. Sen. Obama does not.
And McCain, proving himself the maverick, supported the Iraq troop surge months before President Bush did, and was vilified by his party for taking that stance.
As for Obama, the non-partisan National Journal named Barack Obama the US Senate's most liberal senator for 2007.
