Sports-wise, Chicago got off to a bad start after the Bears blew a third quarter 17-3 lead to lose to the Carolina Panthers, 20-17. It was up to the baseball teams to put things right. The White Sox got started first, sweeping the Detroit Tigers in a double header on Chicago's South Side. But the Sox almost matched the Bears in the giveaway department. After entering the seventh inning with a seven run lead, the Tigers tied the South Siders in the eighth. But Chicago pinch-hitter DeWayne Wise hit a grand slam in the bottom of that inning.
Hurricane Ike moved last night's Houston Astros-Chicago Cubs game to Milwaukee. And it was there that Cubs' hurler Carlos Zambrano threw the first no-hitter for the North Siders since 1972.
The Tigers were the overwhelming favorites to win the American League Central Division. So there was irony when the Sox, who are clinging to a narrow lead over the Minnesota Twins, sweeping the Tigers last night.
ESPN's Jon Miller stated it best about the Tigers during last night. "Bad day, bad season for the Tigers."

Aw, c'mon. The only people who believed the Tigers were a shoe-in were the writers who forget that they actually had to play the games.
Those of us who have been loyal Tigers fans knew we had a weak bullpen and our pitching staff was counting too much on an old man and relatively inexperienced younger pitchers.
After 40 years of fandom, I'm actually looking forward to the end of this dismal season.

On the plus side, your team is still a lot better than the 119 loss edition of 2003. Since then, the Tigers have won a pennant.

That's certainly true, but it sure was easier when I knew they stunk. This year, they've had runs where they've looked good enough to get my hopes up only to crash and burn.
