Energy policy is the achilles heal, hey, it might be the achilles neck for the Barack Obama campaign. They know it, and that's why they are, to use Mitt Romney's words, "stooping to dishonesty."
This morning the former Massachusetts governor appeared on CNN to discuss the Obama campaign's latest television ad.
Here's a trascript:
CNN's Kiran Chetry: "Your response?"
Gov. Mitt Romney: "Well, that's really sad. I didn't know that Barack Obama had stooped to dishonesty. You know, pointing out weaknesses in other people's campaigns or positions is also fair game, but that's dishonest, as you know. First of all, corporations are not allowed to give contributions to candidates, and employees of oil companies give to Barack Obama as well as to John McCain. So, that's part number one that's dishonest. And, number two, John McCain doesn't ask for any tax reduction for oil companies. There's no special deal going to oil companies. He's asking to reduce taxes on all corporations to help build our economy and strengthen jobs as well as reducing taxes on individuals. So, it's simply dishonest as well as below the belt."
Chetry: "Just to clarify. According to The Washington Post, oil and gas industry executives and employees donated $1.1 million to John McCain's campaign last month. So, I think that is what he's referring to in that ad."
Gov. Romney: "But what you don't point out is the employees and executives of the oil companies also gave money to Barack Obama and to suggest that they only gave to John McCain is dishonest. There's no indication that that's the case. In fact, individuals can give to candidates of both parties and they regularly do."
Chetry: "Right. Well, let me just ask you about this, because if John McCain became president, he wants to lower the corporate tax rate by 10%, so 35% down to 25% and that would include companies like big oil and Exxon Mobil who took in $12 billion last quarter alone. How do you explain that to the everyday Joe who's seeing a larger chunk of their paycheck taken up by high gases prices and these oil companies are going to see more money in their pockets while the average guy is seeing less?"
Gov. Romney: "Well, first of all, he's lowering taxes for all corporations in America to help make us more competitive with other nations of the world where corporations are going, because we have the highest corporate tax rate in the world next to Japan. So, he's trying to build our economy and create more jobs and he's not singling out any one company or another."

"How's that workin' for ya?"
For Rob_n, because from his posts at his blog, he seems to pay attention to polls, here's one that should get his attention.
(I know, polls don't mean feces this early in the race, but some gloat about them.)
I watched Gerald Ford self-destruct in '74 with one absent-minded slip. I know either of these candidates COULD do the same thing later today, and the race could be ALL OVER.
But I also know this...
If there ever was a time in history when the democrat candidate SHOULD BE WALKING AWAY WITH A POLITICAL RACE, this is it.
And he ain't.
If that doesn't scare Obama supporters to death, they don't have the grey matter it takes to know what is going on in this political world.
Grey,
Another conservative fellow pointed to that single Ras poll.
And I've never thought either the primaries or the general election would be a cakewalk for anyone. Whatever gave you that impression?
Not what I said Rob.
I said he should be laughing and waving behind him this time, and he's not.
Tough to do when your opponent spends millions of dollars flat out lying about you. As I noted several times on this very blog, the McCain camp even let it slip that they knew they were lying. (It seems Mr. Ruberry never read any of those notes, seeing as how he's never corrected his erroneous water carrying.)
And if they're not lying, they're putting up "stupid" ads -- and I quote Sen. McCain's own mother speaking about her son's own attack ad.
Besides, Americans have never been known to simply hand an electoral win to any candidate. It has to be earned; which is what both Sens. Obama and McCain are obviously now attempting to do.
Well, show us these lies somewhere other than by way of a democrat propaganda machine, Rob.
Lying?
You mean like the multiple reasons Obama's advisors have come up with to attempt to explain away why he couldn't visit with our wounded warriors?
Yeah, I'll believe what Obama says, pal!
Grey,
Do you have a short-term memory problem?
Two birds, one stone: The McCain admitted they were lying in their ads about Obama's planned visit to wounded troops.
After days of airing a false ad and making false statements about the role of the press on the Obama overseas trip McCain operative Michael Goldfarb admitted that Obama did not go to Landstuhl "for reasons other than a lack of photo-op potential."
Is the McCain campaign itself an Obama mouthpiece Greybeard?
As for what you claim are "multiple reasons" every single explanation has always been centered on the fact that the Pentagon originally cleared the way for the Obama campaign to visit Landstuhl and then changed its position at the last moment.
McCain and his fellow conservatives have put the spin on this, turning those wounded GIs into political footballs.
Obama made his visit to the Green Zone MASH unit in private and he called the recovering GIs at Landstuhl in private... McCain and folks like yourself, Grey, are the ones continuing to wring this manufactured controversy for every last bit of our GIs' blood they can give you... It's pathetic -- our troops deserve better than to be fodder for the right-wing's cheap political lies.
