Rezko ruminations

Rich Miller over at the Capitol Fax blog has a superb analysis of the guilty verdict in the corruption trial of Antion "Tony" Rezko that's worth reading. Here's just a bit:

• Is Blagojevich next on the federal "hit list"? Plenty of reports since the Rezko verdict have quoted U.S. attorney insiders as saying the multiple criminal investigations against Blagojevich and his campaign are going "full speed ahead."

"Speed" and "U.S. attorney" are usually not things you see in the same sentence. They like to take their sweet time, so don't get too impatient. The feds will put another Blagojevich fundraiser, Chris Kelly, on trial later this year. Actually, Kelly is not just a fundraiser. He’s a close Blagojevich friend. Plus, there's still another trial pending against Rezko. So, like I said, be patient. It'll happen when it happens.

I think it will happen to the Democratic governor of Illinois.

What are the odds that they'd wait until the governor's term is up? Rich did say the feds like to take their sweet little time. I may wish he was gone now but at the moment he shows no sign of either resigning or getting indicted.

Well "Fitzmas" took his time with Plamegate too...But Blago's term isn't up for another 2 1/2 years. The graft at the Sec'y of State's office was on the frontline, it took years for Fitzgerald and his predecessor to see the sleaze work it's way up to then-Gov. Ryan. The degree of seperation between Blagojevich and Rezko and Kelly is just one degreee.

If Rezko joins the Metropolitan Correctional Center's gymnastics team, that could put this whole thing on fast-forward.
