Later in "My Mississippi Manifest Destiny" I'll get to blues music. But news comes today that Mississippi blues man and rock pioneer Bo Diddley has passed away.
I saw Diddley perform in the late 1980s at the former Biddy Mulligan's club in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood. He wasn't very good, and he played some songs more than once. Still, I'm glad that I got to see the man who created the "Bo Diddley" beat.
His most renowned song was "Who Do You Love," although the George Thorogood and the Destroyers version is probably better known.
Rest in peace.
