Jurors ended deliberations today in the corruption trial of Democratic political insider Antoin "Tony" Rezko. The Chicago "free registration required" Tribune is reporting that the jury will meet only through Thursday and take a four-day weekend.
Unless of course they reach a verdict before then.
Although the focus of this story of the national media is on Barack Obama--Rezko was his first political sponsor--Rezko was a key, perhaps the key leader of the kitchen cabinet of Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. The Chicago Democrat is believed to be the next the next target of federal investigators. When asked if he was concerned about that, the generally reclusive governor replied that he won't answer "stupid questions like that."
Even if Rezko is acquited, the Wilmette businessman faces another trial involving the allegedly fraudulent sale of his pizza restaurants. And another Blagojevich confidante, Christopher Kelly, was indicted late last year on tax charges unrelated to the ongoing investigation of the inner workings of State of Illinois deal making.
"Blago" has a lot to worry about.

Interesting . It remains for the media to connect the dots. Seems to be a case of not being able to see the forest for the trees. Cook county politics haven't much changed.
This is a nice blog. I like it!
