Panic in Detroit.
David Bowie, "Panic in Detroit," 1973
The Detroit Tigers, which loaded up with a barrel of new and expensive players during the off-season, leaving the Tigers with Major League Baseball's second highest payroll. I watched both Friday and Sunday's game against the White Sox on television, and part of Saturday's game, and simply put, the Tigers stink. They can't pitch or hit. Yes, we're just six games into the season, but Detroit, who many experts picked to win the World Series, are 0-6. The Tigers dropped their first three games against perennial AL Central dweller Kansas City.
Losing becomes a habit.
The White Sox look significantly better. Yes, it's early. White Sox ace Mark Buehrle got shelled in the season opener against Cleveland, entering the game with a 37.20 earned run average. His ERA is much lower now--Buehrle gave up just two earned runs in seven innings.
The Sox face off against the Minnesota Twins in their home opener this afternoon. The Tigers have the day off, but travel to Boston to play the World Series Champion Red Sox tomorrow.
