Gunga ga lunga! Dalai Lama more popular among Germans than Pope
Yes, I'm aware that Caddyshack version of the Dalai Lama is fictional--the Buddhist spiritual leader typically yell out "Gunga ga lunga."
However, Gunga ga lunga might be the way to respond to the news that Germans preferred the Dalai Lama as a spiritual leader over Pope Benedict XVI, who of course is a native of Germany, one of those nations that is slipping into a post-Christian society.
Forty-four percent of Deutschlanders chose the Lama as a role model, forty-two picked the Pope, according to Expatica Germany.
In choosing the religion viewed as most peaceful, forty-three percent of Germans named Buddhism, 41 percent chose Christianity. Islam's image in Germany isn't very good--only one percent of Germans selected Islam as being their religion of peace.
