Cook County, IL drops punch card ballots

Not sure what to make of this yet, but suburban Cook County, Illinois is dropping punch card ballots and switching to the optical-scan method. The article from AP, is a bit vague, as it appears to cover only the suburbs of Cook. Popluation-wise, roughly one-third of Cook County will be switching to the new ballots, Chicago--also in Cook but it has its own election authority--may drop the punch cards too.

As mentioned above, I may not be sure what to make of this, but I'm sure noted election and statistician expert Jim Lampley can quickly clarify matters for us.
