Fall must be Van Morrisons favorite season. In the closing track of his 1991 double album, Hymns to the Silence, "I Need Your Kind of Loving," the Belfast Lion sings, "Well I love you in the autumn most of all."

Chicago cop murdered during traffic stop

There's bad news on this Election Day morning. A Chicago cop was murdered.

From Fox Chicago:

The shooting happened during a traffic stop around 8 p.m. in the 8000 block of South Ingleside Avenue, according to Chicago police. 

Someone inside the vehicle started shooting as police approached, striking one officer and another occupant of the vehicle. Police said at least one officer returned fire. The suspect tried to drive away and struck another officer at the scene. The driver then tried to run away from the car but was arrested in the 8000 block of South Maryland Avenue, police said. 

The officer who was shot was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Fraternal Order of Police identified him Tuesday morning as 26-year-old Officer Enrique Martinez.

There's a California ballot initiative, Proposition 36, that will increase the penalties for theft.

A reporter asked Kamala Harris, who lives in San Francisco, how she voted on that measure, and she of course responded with a word salad.

How is Harris going to handle Putin, Xi, or Kim?
