An example of Illinois' dismal fiscal condition will be on display this weekend when thousands of fans gather to watch the annual running of the Springfield Mile motorcycle race.Makeshift repairs have been made on the grandstand and a more extensive repair is planned before the state fair opens in August.
High above the mile-long dirt track at the Illinois State Fairgrounds, a section of the grandstand roof is falling apart, dropping wood debris on the seats below.
