(More photos) The abandoned Chicago North Shore and Milwaukee Railroad

I traveled a few miles north yesterday afternoon to take some more photos of the abandoned Chicago North Shore and Milwaukee Railroad.

A lot more of the tracks have survived than I previously thought. Here's a stretch in Glenview, just south of Lake Avenue.

Here's a patch in Northfield, just north of the bridge over the North Branch of the Chicago River that you'll see next.

Despite my camera facing into the sun, this photograph turned out quite well.

This photograph oofers an excellent view of the bridge's wooden pilings.

To snap this picture, I had to partially climb a gravel pile. This photograph would have turned out much better had those Illinois Department of Transportation salt domes been built somewhere else.

If you are interested in the old Chicago North Shore and Milwaukee Railroad interurban, which ended service in 1963, scroll down and start clicking.

Gosh, where is this? The salt domes are they near Watersmeet Woods? I grew up in Glenview and I just can’t fathom where this old line is located. Pretty awesome find!

Thanks. Take the North Branch Trail west of Happ Road, near New Trier West. Look for the abandoned tracks, the rails are gone but the ties are there. Watch your step! Then turn left, you'll see the bridge, but you'll have to do some climbing to get the views you see here. Again, watch your step!
