Head in the sand: Oberweis hiding from Truax debate challenges in sunny Florida

As I write this entry the latest winter storm is pounding the Chicago area. Sleet is tapping at my windows at home--and eight inches of snow is expected by mid-day Wednesday.

But political gadfly and Illinois US Senate candidate Jim Oberweis won't have to suffer. Don't look for him at his Sugar Grove home; instead, he'll be enjoying the surf and sun of Florida.

From NBC 5 Chicago:
We're only one week away from the Illinois primary, but GOP U.S. Senate candidate Jim Oberweis is already looking ahead to November.

NBC 5 has learned that Oberweis flew out of Illinois Saturday, and is at his million-dollar Bonita Beach Florida condo until the end of the week.

When reached by phone, Oberweis would not confirm his whereabouts, and when he was repeatedly asked whether he's in Illinois, he replied, "I think you've figured out by now that I'm not answering that question."
Wow, even Dick Durbin, the incumbent, wouldn't stoop so low as to not confirm his location when asked.

Oberweis, who has lost four out of five of his previous elections, has been ducking debate challenges from political newcomer Doug Truax, a businessman and a West Point graduate.

The primary election is next week. "Obi" clearly has his head in the sand.
