(Photo) Big Bend Lake: Yet another lake created by the building of the Tri-State Tollway

Des Plaines' Big Bend Lake is different than the other bodies of water I've written about that were created when Interstate 294--the Tri-State Tollway--was constructed in the 1950s. It's connected to the Des Plaines River by a spillway.

The technical term for such digs is borrow pit.
