Obama mansion and the "Rezko lot," April, 2008. |
I'm calling it that because before the Obamas purchased their fancy digs near the University of Chicago in 2005, then-Sen. Obama conducted a walk-through of the home with political fixer Tony Rezko--he was under federal investigation at that time. Rezko is now serving a prison sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution Pekin near Peoria and will not be able to attend the South Side soiree tomorrow.
On the same day the Obama closed on their mansion, Rezko's wife Rita purchased a strip of land adjacent to the house, which is directly behind the 'For Sale' sign in my picture. The assumption is that the Obamas couldn't afford the price of the home and Tony Rezko devised a scheme so they could. Several months after the closings, the Obamas purchased a slice of the "Rezko lot." I believe that over time the Rezkos intended to sell the entire lot to the Obamas.
Of the purchase, Obama told the Chicago Tribune, "It was already a stretch to buy the house."
Look for the mainstream media to ignore the Rezko angle when they report on this fundraiser.
Also, as you will read below, not only hasn't Obama not full explained the purchase of his mansion, he hasn't answered all of the questions surrounding the mortgage on the place.
